Give each opening a name

“Left” and “right” reverse when you view a stack from another side. Identify flues by the room or appliance they serve, then ask the provider to mark the roof photograph from a stated viewpoint. Record unknown connections as unknown. A seemingly spare opening could still serve an appliance elsewhere, so leave decisions about closure until the connections have been established.

Decide what the outer cover must leave accessible

Ask whether the proposal uses individual caps, a single assembly or a different termination for a listed chimney. The width of the masonry top alone cannot answer that question. Ask how the sweep or inspector would reach each passage, which component can be removed and whether an existing crown defect needs its own repair line. A decorative cover should not hide an unresolved water or access problem.

Keep the final description with the property

A clear parts record identifies each opening, component and attachment area. If the outside silhouette will change, ask who will check any applicable Dania Beach review requirements. For later maintenance, keep a photo with room names and any manufacturer or model information rather than relying on the color or shape of the new top.
