Ask to see a section through the wall edge

Roof-system details can show the membrane or base flashing rising at a vertical surface and its upper edge being secured or protected. The appropriate detail depends on the roof system and substrate; GAF's published low-slope flashing details are an example of how manufacturers document them. A quote for “step flashing” should explain where that detail fits the actual roof assembly.

Mark transitions across different roof systems

At an addition, the front of a stack can sit beside shingles while a side or rear face meets a lower membrane. Give each face a letter and mark the corner where the two assemblies meet. Ask the roofer and chimney provider who will uncover, restore and stand behind that corner. This question is more precise than asking either trade to repair an unspecified leak.

Agree what happens to the existing roof coverage

Give the assessor the current roof installer or warranty information, if available, before someone disturbs the membrane. Obtain approval for any investigation that would open the roof. Once work is defined, Wilton Manors Construction Services can answer local permit questions. Retain roof-side and masonry-side photos taken before the top edge is concealed.
